High School News Channel

If you are interested in improving your public speaking, a program I strongly recommend getting involved in , besides speech and debate clubs, is the school news production, if your school has one. My school had one with weekly broadcast. We were involved in anything from writing the script, anchoring, shooting, and post producing the news. I also worked with a different set of folks each week and each time we had different roles. I particularly loved the writing and video editing part of the process.

When it was time for me to be the news broadcaster and speak in front of the whole school, butterflies flowed through my stomach, but I went up and did my very best. Afterwards, I felt accomplished and more than ever confident. If your high school or middle school has a news broadcast, I would highly recommend signing up for it. It greatly improved my ability to work in a group, my creativity, and my confidence in speaking.
